Invisalign, or sometimes referred to as invisible braces or clear aligners, is a modern technique to help straighten and align the teeth to improve the bite, relieve crowding or spacing in the smile, and improve aesthetics. Once we begin treatment, small tooth-coloured buttons (known as attachments) are placed on the teeth. These attachments are unique to each patient’s specific tooth movements and help direct and guide the teeth based on what the dentist has planned. A series of clear plastic trays are worn throughout treatment. These trays are kept in place for 22 hours a day and are only removed for eating. These trays can also be used with whitening gel that we provide to brighten your teeth throughout the Invisalign treatment.
Once we have gone through all the trays, the smile is reviewed and if any further minor changes are required, we perform a new digital scan of the teeth and plan for a few additional trays as needed to make the desired changes. When we are at a place where the smile has become straight and the bite is even, the attachments are removed and the Invisalign treatment is completed. We always provide maintenance trays that are recommended to be worn at night to help maintain the alignment and prevent the teeth shifting and becoming crowded again. Should the teeth shift after treatment, we provide free corrections with further Invisalign treatment for up to 5 years from the initial start date of the Invisalign process.
